PRESIDENTS DESK

This was the worse thing in my life, what I did to that company. I caused

bancarrota

and cost people their jobs and security. I felt so bad. The morning I resigned I just walked in and deposited my letter on the Presidents desk. She looked at my letter, and said that she understood, that it was a mistake that many people could have made. Maybe. I'm not sure. But I felt good in getting out. I had ruined the company, ruined people’s lives, and was just dead wood hanging on. There was no need for me to stay once I had briefed the person who was my replacement. He came on and learned really quickly. It's not too hard, once all the systems are operating the way they should be. I had no severance pay, nothing. I just walked away. We were going to be in for some hard times. I had some savings, and Deb was working, but that wouldn't keep us a float for long. I began to look for a new position, but finding something in the same industry would be hard. I was infamous now for what I did to my former employer. I talked to my buddy, Jim, and asked him if he had any ideas. He said he might.

AROUND THE KITCHEN TABLE

My cousin Stephanie is in law school, and when I saw her last weekend at family brunch she seemed pretty exhausted.  She said that she works constantly, and that there are not even enough hours in a day for how much reading she has to do.  She said that one class, her bankruptcy law class, was next to impossible.  Stephanie said that she could not tolerate her professor, and the work, papers and exams would be the death of her.  I told her that I was glad that I had not chosen law as my profession.  The brunch itself was actually quite delicious.  There were bagels, cream cheese, lox and tuna from Once Upon A Bagel.  My grandmother made cheese blintzes and egg and cheese soufflé.  Add that to some pancakes, waffles and fresh fruit, and we had ourselves a formidable feast.  It was nice to get a chance to catch up with all of my cousins around the kitchen table.  Some of us are done with school, in graduate school, still in college, or even younger yet, still in high school and it is nice to get a chance to see what everybody is up to.  To top it all off we had some French Silk Pie, and it was time to head home.
